Closure of Câm

Dear friends, partners and supporters,

I’m writing with a heavy heart to share that we have ceased operations at Câm and have begun the process of closing the business.

This was an incredibly difficult decision. From the very beginning, everyone from our Câm team and investors to the pastoralists who anchored our supply chain believed deeply in the opportunity to transform Nigeria’s dairy sector. Together, we witnessed first-hand the positive impact we could have on pastoralist communities and all the partners along the dairy value chain.

Although we have come a long way since launch, we experienced significant challenges towards the end of 2024. After exhausting every option to secure additional funding in a challenging economic climate, we could no longer sustain the cost of operations and scale the business to the next level.

We set out with big ambitions: to reintroduce real, fresh milk to Nigerian households, nourish our growing population, and help eradicate poverty among our pastoralist suppliers. Our business model was always structured around these impact goals, even as a for-profit company. We wanted to create a new economy centred around real dairy, and to prove that a smallholder-driven dairy value chain could be both profitable and transformative.

To our customers: Your loyalty and encouragement meant everything to us. Your feedback made us better, and your support made every hard day worth it. Thank you for believing in our mission and for making Câm a part of your daily breakfast and snacks.

To our pastoralists: We have always said there is no Câm without milk – and there is no milk without you. Thank you for trusting us season after season, and for your steadfast loyalty even as competition increased. You were truly the heart of our business.

To our partners and investors: Thank you for believing in our vision and supporting us with the guidance and resources that turned Câm from an idea into a vertically integrated dairy business. Your efforts, though often behind the scenes, were instrumental to our journey. This adventure was filled with both challenges and moments of joy.While we may not have achieved everything we set out to do, I am proud of what we built together.

In recognition of what we achieved together, we would like to share our Impact Report, which was scheduled for release last year. We hope it will give you a sense of the difference your support has made in the dairy value chain in Nigeria. Although this is the end of our chapter, we hope our work inspires others to continue building on the vision to advance smallholder farming, develop the livestock value chain and drive value-added food manufacturing in Africa.
